All fonts have default letters suggested by Dr. Rosemary Sassoon and are usable in your software. The alternative letters can only be accessed if you have an OpenType compatible application.
Sassoon OpenType fonts: Accessing 'feature' options
Some examples of popular applications that use alternative letters in OpenType fonts.
Refer to your particular manual for precise instructions.
Microsoft Word
CorelDraw
Adobe InDesign
Adobe illustrator

Microsoft Word example
ONLY WINDOWS VERSION 2010, OR MAC OS VERSION 2011 (OR LATER)
ARE ABLE TO USE THE ALTERNATIVE LETTERS IN THESE FONTS.
Open the 'Font' menu
(Press Ctrl D or right-click the button to display the Font dialog)

Select the 'Advanced' tab to view OpenType features for this font.
For any 'separate-letter' fonts that do not join, choose only one feature, a
'Stylistic Set' that meets your requirements (different k for example).

In 'joining' fonts, where letters join together in different ways, choose:
'Use Contextual Alternates' to turn on Default baseline joining letterforms.
Choose a 'Stylistic Set' to modify joins further to suit your requirements.

    To apply an OpenType feature to text:
    1. Using the Text tool, a single character or a sequence of characters.
    If the Object properties docker is not open, click Window Dockers object properties.
    2. In Object properties docker, click Character button to display character-related options.
    3. In the Character area of the Object properties docker, click an OpenType feature button, and, if applicable, choose a feature from the list.
    Some OpenType fonts may appear to support features that are unsupported.
    To enable the onscreen OpenType feature indicator.
    Click the Text tool, and then click the Interactive OpenType button on the property bar.
    If an OpenType feature is available for the selected text, an arrow displays below the text.
    You can also view a list of the most popular OpenType features onscreen
    Click the down arrow below the text in the document window.
    Apply an OpenType feature to a text selection.
    Hover over an option in the OpenType feature list and click an option.

    About Sassoon OpenType fonts
    OpenType fonts have a set of normal keyboard letters (Default).
    In addition, Sassoon fonts have at least 16 'Sets' of alternative letters.
